Britain’s luckiest dog survives falling out of moving car at 3-months old

"I slammed on the brakes and jumped out, she was just laying on the floor"

BRITAIN’S luckiest dog survived falling out of a moving car at just three-months-old, shattering her back and almost losing her tail.

Peggy, a one-year-old Patterdale Terrier also fractured her legs after jumping out of owner Jane Brady’s motor on a main road.

The curious pup wanted to see the outside world as the car travelled at 30mph.

Jane, 55, said Peggy scraped all the skin off her front.

But she is now set to take part in a charity walk – of nearly 100 miles after a miraculous recovery.

She said: “Peggy is nuts, absolutely nuts.

“Her brother Kenny had accidentally rolled the automatic window down and she jumped up to have a look.

“I slammed on the brakes and jumped out, she was just laying on the floor.

“I had no choice as I was on my own but to put her in the boot of the car and take her to the vet.

“She was touch and go for like five days.

“We didn’t know if she’d keep her tail.”

But the pup left Jane astounded when she bounced back from the brink of death last November within a matter of days.

Jane, of St Helen’s, Merseyside, had only had Peggy for four weeks when her accident happened.

Vets warned her that the most important thing was for Peggy to go to the toilet otherwise they would have to put her down.

When she did, Jane was jumping for joy.

The NHS worker said: “If she hadn’t pooped then we would have had to put her to sleep because her bowel would have been paralysed.

“On the fifth day she had a poo.

“It was like Christmas day in our back garden – I was screaming and crying.”

Peggy is now putting her full recovery to use by doing the charity walk for less fortunate pooches.

She will be joined by owner Jane and her four-legged brother Kenny.

Jane said: “When Peggy had her accident, Kenny lied on the bed and cried for days.

“He was absolutely heartbroken.

“He’d come down and sniff her and then go upstairs and cry.

“They’re the best of friends.”

The trio will do the West Highland Way Walk which covers a distance of 96 miles – or 154 kilometres.

It goes from Milngavie north of Glasgow to Fort William in the Highlands.

They will wild camp all the way along on the walk next month (Sept).
