BRITS are so bad at baking that they blame their children and pets for their culinary flops.
One in ten Brits would go as far as to say their baking creations are disastrous.
A whopping 28 per cent of adults aged 35 to 44 have burned their baked goods beyond inedible.
Around five per cent have had to enlist emergency help – including calling the fire brigade.
The study was commissioned by cookie dough maker Doughlicious to get to the bottom of Brits baking woes.
It found that five per cent suffer from mageirocophobia – the fear of baking.
However, fear hasn’t stopped romantics using baking to get some love with seven per cent admitting they have specifically baked to impress a love interest.
This has ended badly for many Brits as ten per cent pretended to have dropped their creations as a cover up for why it looked so bad.
And seven per cent have been so embarrassed by their baking disasters that they have pretended to forget their creations when visiting friends and family.
A further nine percent of shameful bakers simply saved face by buying a shop-made replacement.
The most shocking is five per cent of parents blaming their own children for their disastrous bakes.
Around 17 per cent of failed bakers admitted that underbaking their creations was at the root cause of their problem.
Other common baking fails from Brits include using salt instead of sugar, forgetting key ingredients and even having the cat knock their sweet creation on the floor.
As far as professions go, accountants are the most likely to shy away from the spatula.
Doughlicious founder Kathryn Bricken said: “It’s been a real eye-opener to understand some of the challenges that amateur bakers face in the kitchen.
“But the heartening thing to note is that help for bakers with a bad track record, is close to hand.”
