CALLOUS thieves stole £1,000 worth of goods from a food bank shop.
Volunteers were left reeling after the shop, which helps out poor and starving people, was ransacked.
The store sells heavily subsidised goods to people struggling to pay for grocery shopping.
It’s the third time it has been broken into in 12 months.
It comes amid a crushing cost of living crisis due to the Ukraine war that has seen the cost of food and energy skyrocket.
The owners of the MiCommunity shop in Margate, Kent, are now desperately seeking a more secure premises following the August 29 break-in.
Shop worker Darryn de la Soul said: “We are truly shocked that anyone would be so cold-hearted as to rob a Foodbank.
“We work so hard as volunteers to serve our community and it’s really difficult to keep enough funds coming in to keep going.
“So to lose around a thousand pounds worth of stock, including things we’re getting ready for Christmas, is a brutal blow.
“We are trying so hard to do whatever we can to help people through this current crisis, and then this – it’s really disheartening.
“We urgently need larger and more secure premises – if anyone can help in Margate we’d love to hear from them.
“And of course we need to replace the stock- all donations gratefully accepted.”
Volunteers are asked to help replenish stocks of tinned baked beans, tinned soups, meats, vegetables, fish and fruit, as well as ladies’ hygiene products, washing powder, milk, shampoo, conditioner and cereals.
