Harrison Ford’s childhood home for sale

"This home has a significant historical relevance - it was the childhood home of Harrison Ford"

Harrison Ford’s childhood home is up for sale ahead of his 80th birthday next week. The three bed mock ‘Vintage Tudor’ – house in Park Ridge, Illinois, is on the market for £627,000. Built in 1922, it was the Indiana Jones and Star Wars actor’s pad in the 1950s – when he was just 10-years-old. But many of the original touches known by the Han Solo actor have been ripped out in a recent remodel.

The avocado-green kitchen has been replaced with stainless-steel appliances, a butcher-block island, black and white tiling and a breakfast nook. The house has also been gutted of its original wallpaper which has also been replaced by a neutral grey and white palette. Hollywood A-lister Ford – who turns 80 next Wednesday (Jul 13) – is one of the highest grossing actors of all time. His movies have made more than $9.3 billion worldwide putting him seventh on the all time list.

The house is being sold by @Properties and the listing reads:

“Character and charm abound in this fully renovated Vintage Tudor located on Washington Street in much sought after Park Ridge Country Club. “This home has a significant historical relevance – it was the childhood home of Harrison Ford. “The house has been professionally remodelled from top to bottom while retaining the original 1920’s essence.”

While Ford lived in Park Ridge he attended Maine Township High School East, where he never got above a C average. But he did make his first move into acting as a member of the school Radio Station WMTH, where he became the lead voice for sports reporting. When he travelled to California in search of a job in 1964 he was looking for voice-over work, before landing a contract to play roles in films. The main floor has a new kitchen with a separate formal dining room and a family room overlooking a lush, green garden.

Above are three large bedrooms, a new bathroom and an original balcony – off which is reported to be Ford’s childhood room. The 659 square metre pad also houses a fully furnished basement with a large rec room and kitted out bar. The new renovations also include new windows, lighting, air conditioning, electric and radiators. It is just five minutes from the Park Ridge country club and the station. Chicago, where Ford was born, is less than 20 miles away.

His parents, Dorothy and Christopher Ford, worked as a radio actress and actor-turned advertising executive. Ford was picked by George Lucas to be Han Solo while working as a self-employed carpenter, having quit acting after becoming frustrated with the small roles he was playing. He has since starred in over 50 films, with dozens of documentaries and TV programmes to his name.
