Ghost tries to steal video camera at haunted Victorian fort

"It felt as though the camera was being pulled from my hand which left a small dent in my hand"

A hardened paranormal investigator said a ghost tried to steal his video camera from his hand in a derelict Victorian fort.

Tony Ferguson fears for its new residents as developers plan to turn the cursed site into new homes.

The area has been used to sacrifice small animals as part of satanic rituals and is littered with burnt Oujia boards.

Tony, 37, was mocked by sinister ghouls during his visits.

Unwelcoming spirits demanded investigators leave the fort and one even tried to steal Tony’s camera from his hand.

Fort Gilkicker sold for £1.38million earlier this year after plans to turn it into a gated community were approved.

Based in Gosport, Hants, the fort was built in 1871 to protect the Royal Navy in nearby Portsmouth from French attackers.

Tony, of Southampton, said: “I have visited Fort Gilkicker on three occasions as we have had many reports of it being haunted.

“The first time I visited was with my wife Bev and a fellow investigator Paul Cissell.

“We entered the fort and encountered many disembodied voices that were not very welcoming.

“They seemed to be very unfriendly and not happy that we were there.

“On entering the tunnels, we noticed sadly that there seemed to be small animals that had been used as a sacrifice in some sort of ritual that had taken place.

“We found burnt Ouija boards in some of the rooms there too.

“I pointed my camera through one of the windows to one of the rooms and you can hear me yell and swear at the same time.

“It felt as though the camera was being pulled from my hand which left a small dent in my hand.

“You can hear in the video a creepy laughing sound as though someone is mocking me.

“The same laughter was caught a second time moments after all of this happened.”

Desperate to bring more concrete evidence of the Fort’s hauntings to the public, Tony returned a second time.

This time, he heard voices demanding he and his team “go” and “leave”.

In footage, Tony caught an unexplained spark going off before he cried out in pain as something pinched and hit his hand.

He continued: “We also heard door banging so we tried to debunk this.

“The door that slammed shut is a heavy steel door.

“Paul and I decided to set up a static camera in the corridor to see if we could capture this or find an explanation as to what could have caused this.

“I returned for a third time with my wife Bev and Ghost2Ghost Paranormal Investigation Events members Debbie McAll and Emily Cowell.

“Again, we were met with disembodied voices of a negative nature.

“The same as before, saying ‘get out’, ‘go’ and ‘leave’.

“These were male voices yet I was the only male in the Fort at this point.

“Debbie and Emily felt very uncomfortable and felt like we were being followed.”

Before its sale, Fort Gilkicker became a hotspot for paranormal investigators and urban explorers.

Planning permission has been granted to convert the Grade II listed structure into 26 homes.

The large bank in front of it will also be dug up so future residents have sea views.

However, Tony fears these residents will be tormented by the spirits that haunt the grounds.

Building work has a tendency to stir up paranormal activity too, so workers on the site may be confronted by unhappy ghouls.

The semi-circular ark of the fort was filled with gun emplacements bearing down on Spithead off Portsmouth – a deep water anchorage for navy vessels.

The fort was later used in the First and Second World Wars.

It has since been used for a number of things, including as a plumbers’ workshop, signalling station and storage units
