Ukrainian family reunited with their dog after she was stolen 6 days after they arrived in the UK

"We would like to thank everyone who has helped get Ellie back"

A UKRAINIAN family has been reunited with their dog after she was stolen six days after they arrived in the UK after fleeing the war in their homeland.

Cops launched a hunt for the eight-year-old Yorkshire Terrier called Ellie after Lina and Oleksiy Litvinova and their two kids and her mum were left devastated.

Police officers trawled through CCTV footage and then found the pooch in a nearby house safe and well.

She was then reunited with the couple, both 40, Ivan, 17, nine-month-old Kira plus Larysa, 66 on Wednesday night (Aug 10).

Chuffed Lina said: “We are just so happy to have Ellie back.

“There was always the awful possibility of not seeing her again.

“But this is the best present for us all.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped get Ellie back.

“Thank you everybody, our family is back together now.”

The family had driven over 2,000 miles for three days across 10 countries to escape the Russian onslaught.

They have had Ellie as a pup and brought her too.

They moved into a temporary home in Streatham, south west London, last Monday (Aug 1) – the day they arrived in the country – while awaiting a permanent residence.

But the eight-year-old dog was pinched on Sunday (Aug 7) morning.

Ellie had managed to run out of the house but Lina claims two people in a red BMW stopped and told passersby they were the owners.

She said they then snatched the dog and drove off with her in broad daylight.

Lina, 40, added: “This sort of thing just doesn’t seem to happen back in our home town of Kharkiv.

“But we arrive here in England and within a few days Ellie is snatched.”

Ellie then could be seen running out.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “A dog stolen from a family who had recently arrived in the UK from Ukraine has been returned to them following a proactive investigation.

“Police were contacted at approximately 1:40pm on Sunday, August 7 after Yorkshire Terror ‘Ellie’ was stolen from their address in Ellison Road SW16 earlier that morning.

“Officers from the Central South Command Unit’s Safer Neighbourhoods Team began investigating, and following witness, CCTV and vehicle enquiries police attended an address in Surrey, where Ellie was located safe and well.

“She has since been returned to her family. They were kept updated at each stage of the investigation.

“Enquiries continue with regards the circumstances around her theft.

“No arrests have been made at this time.”
